Permanent Sewer Solution Cost in North NJ: Why a Thorough Fix Costs More
In North Jersey, plenty of ads promise a low price — say, $199 — to clear a sewer line. That number usually buys a snake-only “poke a hole” service: it leaves the pipe walls dirty, and the clog typically comes back within months. A complete restoration — camera inspection plus hydro jetting — costs more up front (commonly $700–$1,200 as a bundled package) but is built to keep the line clear far longer, which is what eliminates repeat service calls.
This isn’t snaking. You’re paying for a diagnosis-and-clean done once, properly.
What the $700–$1,200 bundle includes
The price is higher because the diagnostics and cleaning tools that some companies sell as expensive add-ons are included as standard.
1. Camera inspection (diagnosis)
Before any work, we run a sewer camera to find the actual cause — roots, grease, scale, an offset joint, or a cracked section. Without a camera, a plumber is guessing. Many companies charge $300–$500 extra for this; here it’s part of the job.
2. Hydro jetting (full clean)
We use high-pressure hydro jetting to scour the pipe walls, not just bore a channel through the clog. Snaking pokes a hole; jetting removes the grease and scale that cause repeat clogs. (See hydro jetting vs. snaking.)
3. Licensed, insured, written quote, no hidden fees
Your quote covers the trip, diagnosis, the work, and cleanup. The work is handled by a licensed and insured New Jersey plumbing company that carries the general liability insurance and surety bond the state requires — protection a $199 operator may not offer.
Why the cheap option usually comes back
A bargain snake-only price typically uses small equipment that punches through a clog but leaves roots and grease behind. The line clogs again in a few months, and you pay a second (or third) time. Adding up those repeat visits often costs more than one thorough restoration — that’s the real comparison to make, not the sticker price.
A complete camera-plus-jetting service won’t make an old pipe new, and results always depend on the pipe’s condition — but for a line clogged by grease or roots, it clears far more of the problem and lasts much longer than snaking alone.
When to call
If you’re seeing slow drains, gurgling, or recurring backups, don’t wait for a full blockage. Review the main sewer line clog symptoms, then have the line inspected before deciding on any repair.
Because we diagnose with a camera first, you’ll see the cause on screen and get a flat-rate quote before any work begins — no guessing, no surprise charges. Check what homeowners say about us — 394+ Google reviews (see them).
