Does Roto-Rooter Drain Cleaning Include a Camera Inspection?

Rooter Experts Drain Cleaning publishes this guide as an independent service provider and is not affiliated with Roto-Rooter.

Three numbered tips: Confirm the camera scope before approving drain work
A written estimate should state which line is covered and whether camera inspection is part of the agreed work.

If you are booking Roto-Rooter for a clogged drain, ask whether the written price includes a camera inspection before approving the work. Its published service list includes camera inspections, but that does not establish that every drain-cleaning job includes one.

The key question is simple: Does your estimate cover both cleaning and camera work on the affected line, or only cleaning?

What Roto-Rooter’s regional page says

Roto-Rooter’s Newark-area drain-cleaning page lists drain snaking, hydro jetting, video camera inspections, preventive cleaning and main sewer line cleaning. It describes video inspections as a way to locate hidden issues.

That page lists Bergen and Passaic among the counties in its Newark metro service area. However, it does not say that a camera inspection comes with every cleaning, publish a universal cleaning-and-camera bundle, or explain which jobs include camera work at the quoted price.

A list of available services is not the same as the scope of your appointment. The published information leaves the inclusion question open; it is not proof that an inspection costs extra, either.

What the written estimate should settle

In its national pricing and estimate guide, reviewed October 4, 2026, Roto-Rooter says most locations provide a written, flat-rate estimate before work begins. The guide describes that price as covering the agreed scope, rather than charging by the hour. Services and pricing can vary by location, so confirm the terms with the office handling your address.

The guide also says that if a complication requires additional work, the technician stops, explains the finding and seeks approval of a revised estimate before continuing. Keep the location qualification in mind here, too: ask your local office how it handles changes to the agreed work.

A flat-rate quote still needs a clear description. A fixed price for cleaning alone does not establish that camera work is included. Ask for the inspection to be named in the estimate if that is part of what you expect to receive.

Ask these camera-specific questions

Before signing, get answers to these points:

  • Which line will be cleaned and inspected: the affected fixture’s drain or the main sewer line?
  • What cleaning method is included?
  • Is camera inspection included in the total, optional at a separate price, or subject to a later recommendation?
  • Is the planned inspection before cleaning, afterward, or both?
  • What portion of the line does the inspection cover, and what happens if the planned inspection cannot be completed?
  • Will you receive a recording, images, written findings or only a verbal explanation?
  • What additional work would require a revised estimate and your approval?

These are questions to confirm, not promises about either provider’s service. If an answer matters to your decision, ask for it in writing rather than relying on the phrase “drain cleaning.”

Compare the same work, not just the total

When reviewing two proposals, check whether both name the same line, cleaning method and camera work. Also compare what findings you will receive and how each provider will seek approval for any added work.

For example, a cleaning-only proposal and a cleaning-plus-inspection proposal describe different scopes. Their totals alone cannot tell you which proposal better fits your goal. Ask each provider to explain the recommended work and price the scope you want to compare.

If one estimate simply says “camera included,” request the missing details from the questions above. If another leaves camera work out, ask whether it is recommended and what adding it would cost. Missing terms are a reason to ask, not evidence of hidden charges.

Two proposal cards show drain cleaning alone and drain cleaning with a camera-inspection icon.
Example scopes differ: compare whether each proposal includes cleaning, camera inspection, and the same affected line.

Requesting a local proposal

Rooter Experts Drain Cleaning offers drain-cleaning services and sewer camera inspections in Northern New Jersey, including Moonachie, Hackensack and Clifton. Ask what your particular proposal includes; do not assume a bundle or fee from the service names.

When requesting service, give your town, the affected fixtures and whether the clog has returned after earlier work. Use symptoms you have already observed. Then ask the provider to put the agreed cleaning and inspection scope in writing before you approve it.
